The region :
Camping La Marjorie is located close to many tourist attractions:
Lons-le-Saunier (Ledo Salinarius “the city of salt” in Gallo Roman): the spa town and its heritage
Lons-le-Saunier is a town that wonderfully combines the charm of a spa town and the richness of a historical heritage. The thermal baths: Renowned for their salty waters rich in trace elements, with therapeutic virtues, the thermal baths of Lons-le-Saunier have attracted spa visitors for centuries to treat joint diseases and also child development disorders.
Heritage: The city is full of historic buildings that bear witness to its rich past. You can admire in particular:
The Church of the Cordeliers: A discreet religious building, at the end of a courtyard, but remarkable for its architecture. Built in the 13th century by the Cordeliers, an order of Franciscan monks, the church, following fires, underwent many transformations over the centuries. It was notably enlarged and modified in the 16th and 17th centuries.
It is a beautiful example of Gothic architecture. It is distinguished by its large arcades, its ribbed vaults and its colored stained glass windows. The interior is sober and bright, creating an atmosphere conducive to meditation.
Ledonia, the source of the salt well : one of the three salt water sources, witness to the exploitation of the natural resource that made the city's fortune. For 6000 years and until 1966, the exploitation of salt water was the city's main economic activity.
The salt well allowed salt water to be brought up from the rock salt deposit in the depths, it was then evaporated by fire to obtain salt whose mineralization is close to that of sea salt.
The salt well is an impressive technical construction. It consists of a very deep vertical well, lined with wood to protect it from collapse. It allowed Lons-le-Saunier to prosper and become an important trading center. It also contributed to the reputation of the city's thermal baths, whose healing waters are naturally salty.
The Tufs Waterfalls in the village of Planches-près-d'Arbois: a jewel in the greenery! Natura 2000 protected site.
This listed natural site is a true wonder of nature. The Tufs waterfalls were formed over the centuries by the deposit of Tuf, a limestone rock. The result is a magical landscape, with waterfalls, natural pools and lush vegetation. It is an ideal place for an easy walk, in the heart of nature, where young and old, whatever the season, will return amazed.
The Castle of Lons-le-Saunier : a medieval fortress.
Although only a few remains remain today, the Château de Lons-le-Saunier has played an important role in the history of the town. It bears witness to its tumultuous past and its strategic importance.
And of course, La Maison de la Vache qui rit! A must for lovers of this famous cheese sold in 130 countries! You will discover the history of this famous brand and why this cow was made to laugh! It is an incredible place to visit with the family!
And don't forget to taste (in moderation) the wines of the Jura (special mention for the famous and succulent Vin Jaune "l'Or du Jura," one of the greatest dry white wines in the world.), to taste its tasty cheeses, Comté, Morbier, Mont d'Or, Cancoillotte, etc., its Bresse chickens, its Morteau sausages, etc. What gourmet discoveries!
La Bourgogne-Franche-Comté is also famous for its gastronomy! So go there, you will come back enchanted!
