THE REGION

Located in Grimaud, in the middle of the Provençal nature between hundred-year-old pines and the sea, the Mûres campsite offers an exceptional location with a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean and direct access to the beach.

Perhaps you saw them, from afar, in the plain when arriving at the campsite? the hilltop village of Grimaud et the silhouette of the castle whose towers overlook the village. Built in the Middle Ages, it was transformed in the XNUMXth century. From the top of its towers and its enclosures, you will have an exceptional panorama over the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. On the hill, in front of the castle, the restored Saint-Roch mill (XNUMXth century) is in a state of grinding grain and ... during the folkloric patronal festivals, you can even see Maître Cornille and his donkey straight out of the tales of Alphonse Daudet.

In summer, you will appreciate the freshness and calm of its alleys, its squares with shaded terraces. The rue des Templiers still has its Italian Gothic arcades (15th-17th centuries) and its merchant stalls, it will lead you to the very beautiful 12th century Saint-Michel church, in Provencal Romanesque style with pure lines, in Latin cross, with the nave in three bays. Do not miss the Carrara marble font in the side chapel.

Port Grimaud

"Little Venice "Is a city entirely dedicated to navigation, François Spoerry, the great French architect designed it by reinventing the Phocaean counter Athenopolis which existed in 2600 BC. JC. The lost lake city, it is on 70 hectares of swamps that in 1966, he built 7 km of canals along which 2000 houses and apartments were built. By associating the charm of Provençal colors (ocher, red, pale yellow) wood, stone, lampposts, colonnades, etc., and the variety of "Venetian" bridges that span the canals, he made Port-Grimaud a place exceptional.

Everything in this village will enchant you: the Place du Marché and its mosaic paving, the François Spoerry places, that of the six cannons, the St François church and its stained glass windows by Vasarely ... and a little tour on the canals in an electric boat will show it to you otherwise and you will only love it more.

Saint Tropez

And you will, of course, go to Saint Tropez to international fame.

It is one of the most famous marinas in the Mediterranean. Its architecture, despite the ages, has been preserved; the quays, the terraces, the colors of the facades of the houses have kept the spirit of the XNUMXth century.

You will see there, around the quays, which are always very lively in season, the sumptuous yachts whose decks come alive in the evening for "bling-bling" parties.

From Môle Jean Réveille you will have a panoramic view of the Gulf.

But that's not all! There is so much to discover...

The only intramural beach is a small sandy haven "La Ponche" and, next to the old port and its houses, from the beginning of the 17th century, evoke the past where St Tropez lived mainly from fishing.

Nearby, visit the famous The Announcement, old chapel, which showcases the prestigious painting collections.

Stroll through the alleys and climb up to the Citadel ; it bears witness to the village's role as a stronghold with its cannons and its keep.

At the Musée de la Marine, you will discover that, in the 18th century, St Tropez was the third port in the Mediterranean from which whalers left as far as Cape Horn.

Against the bottom of the Citadel take a little detour through the picturesque marine cemetery with white tombs where famous people rest.

Right next door, you will rest on the Graniers beach in a small cove with clear water.

The small welcoming streets will lead you to the Notre-Dame-de-l 'Assomption church with white stones and the sienna and ocher campanile known throughout the world.

Join, a few steps away, the Place des Lices where the Provencal market is set up every week and where, every day, the famous pétanque games come alive, for the pleasure of the eyes and ears. After this delightful spectacle, another pleasure: sit down on a terrace and savor the delicious and emblematic tarte tropézienne with coffee, tea or local rosé of your choice!

Do you like the typical hilltop villages of Provence?

So take the direction of Gassinvery old village, site known since prehistoric times. Its 16th century church was built on a medieval church (the bell tower) It is by charming winding roads, which cross oak hills, that you will arrive at the village perched on a rocky hill at an altitude of 200m. The streets and alleys so beautifully flowered are calm and cool in summer.

From the beautiful orientation table (above the tourist office), you will have an impressive view. You will discover the territorial space of Gassin, its golf course, the polo club but also a large part of the famous vineyards and, further on, Port-Grimaud, Port-Cogolin, the whole gulf, the Maures massif, the Esterel and its coast, and even the Alps on a clear day. It is the most beautiful point of view of the Gulf!

And from the Barri terrace (ramparts) you will have another magnificent view over the bay of Cavalaire, of the Golden Islands.

Do not hesitate to visit another hilltop, medieval village, built in the shape of a snail, Ramatuele. Its oldest houses cling to the rock and overlook the bay of Pampelonne and its five kilometers of fine sand beaches.

Sainte-Maxime

To get to your campsite you have passed through the beautiful town of HolyMaxim, go back and visit on foot this family seaside resort located between the Moors and the Mediterranean. The heart of the Provençal village has been preserved and you can walk around the church of Sainte Maxime, the patron saint, erected in 1762, the Tour Carrée, a cannon tower built to protect against invasions. It was started in 1520 and, after several assignments, was completed, in its present appearance, in 1856.

In the seaside resort, which in 1920 -1930 was very popular with a wealthy bourgeoisie, the innovative architects of the Belle Epoque created the neo-regionalism style inspired by art deco. You can follow the planned circuit to discover these buildings and villas with a rich and elegant style. Another circuit, by the little Pignes train, will take you up the Semaphore hills to see the Gulf in all its beauty. Obviously, the sea is never very far away and you will go and enjoy its pleasures with your family on the fine sand of the large beaches of La Nartelle and the town center.
