THE VILLAGE AND ITS REGION
Located between lake of Serre-Ponçon and the summit of Pouzenc (2898 m), the town of Baratier covers 1490 ha in the heart of a region rich in landscapes, history and culture from where you can shine.
The old village of Baratier located at 870 m above sea level, along the impetuous torrent of Cowherds, 4 km fromEmbrun and near the winter sports resorts of Orres and Crevoux, has managed to keep its old look.
“Poor but proud of heart” is Baratier's motto. The warmth and friendliness of its inhabitants offered to visitors illustrate this wonderfully. In summer, as throughout the year, local festivals and concerts enliven the village.
Every Thursday evening in summer, a guided tour of the village is commented on by a tour guide approved by the Ministry of Culture. Between the torrent of Cowherds and the canal, a visit to Baratier allows you to explore the issue of water in all its registers: protection against floods, irrigation, the use of its force, transformation into energy ... but you you will also know more about the typical alleys of the village, the fountains, the larch market, the grain sorter, agricultural tool of the Allard family mill (stationary since 1960), the Saint-Chaffrey church built in XVecentury, embellished with its sundial, The route ends in front of an exhibition of old photos to compare the landscapes of the end of the XIXe century / early XXe with those of today.

You will stroll through the typical alleys with vaulted passages, colorful houses, facades decorated with sundials. But you can just as much, thanks to its magnificent body of water, practice sporting activities and also rest and sunbathe on its welcoming beaches.
5,3 km on the commune of Crots,'Boscodo Abbeyn of the XNUMXth century in its magnificent natural setting, has a lot of charm with its Romanesque church and its stone buildings whose roof is in larch shingles.
