Bergues, Welcome to Les Ch'tis!
Surrounded by fortifications built in the Middle Ages over the centuries and, in the 17th century, by Vauban, Bergues, which has managed to preserve its old-world charm, is a unique medieval city, located not far from Dunkirk.
But it is thanks to the international success of "Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis" the film by Dany Boon, that the natural settings of the film: the canals, the cobbled streets, the typical houses and the Belfry, have made the city known throughout the world. Today many tourists come to visit the filming locations, climb the 193 steps of the Belfry, listen to the refrains of its carillon and settle on the village square to relive the emotions felt while watching the film.
Known for its UNESCO World Heritage-listed belfry, it is often nicknamed the "Little Venice of the North" because of its canals that wind through the city. Bergues is, without a doubt, a jewel of Flemish heritage. A must-see!
After these discoveries and hikes, relax by the pond, read a good book in the shade of a tree or take a restorative nap in your hammock.
